Power of Forgiveness

exploring the power and nature of forgiveness

Scott HutchingsonThe agape life of Jesus has sung a love song to me for as long as I can remember.  I am in my 28th year as a local church pastor, twenty-two of them shared with the wonderful people of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. In addition to the thrill of proclaiming the gospel and the privilege of pastoral care, I love to teach and learn the ways of peace.  My formal education includes professional degrees in Divinity, Counseling and Human Relations, and Social Work.  My most vital schooling has come among the beloved in places like: Lower Merion Counseling Services; People Acting to Help, in Philadelphia: the Carbon County Jail; Fox Chase Cancer Center; Panchimilama, El Salvador; and in the broken bread of countless lives shared generously with me.  They have been exemplary teachers, embodying the presence of Christ and pointing to the emerging kingdom among us.  Grace has abounded!

I first taught The Transforming Power of Forgiveness as a six week course in a nearby seminary.  The experience was dynamic and life-giving.  Over the years since I have led courses and workshops in community settings, local churches, and liberation schools. I have worked with CPE students, exploring the power of forgiveness and its application in their pastoral work and spiritual growth.  I have taught and consulted with congregations experiencing deep brokenness and division, worked with wounded pastors, and listened carefully with war veterans.  When people inquire about my passion for and immersion in the subject of forgiveness, I explain that my life has been a laboratory in it!
